What really happens to the skin over the years
Skin ageing is not a single process but several changes happening at the same time. Production of collagen and elastin, the fibres that give the skin strength and elasticity, gradually slows down. At the same time the skin produces fewer natural oils, holds moisture less well and renews its cells more slowly.
The combined result is what you see in the mirror: fine lines that become wrinkles, skin that looks less full and slightly slack, a rougher texture, and a tone that has lost its evenness and glow.
Alongside age, accumulated sun exposure has a marked effect on how the skin looks. Time cannot be stopped, but further damage can be limited with daily protection and sound skincare habits.
